Alternative Thursday: Diet as a means of fighting pain and fatigue.

Diet has been a highly debated part of FMS. Some believe that preservatives and other artificial components of mainstream food are partly to blame for the pain and fatigue associated with Fibro. Others, while they may not believe diet to contribute to the pain, do believe that a healthy diet consisting of very basic things, can alleviate some discomfort.

One of our goals with this blog is to chronicle our journey to getting well and helping others relieve their symptoms, as well. Diet will be playing a big part in that. Most of our recipes shared on Wednesdays will be organic and/or found in cookbooks made specifically for FMS patients.

As an FMS patient, if you're interested in making some changes to your diet, you should be aware of some serious don't's.

Don't eat red meat.
Don't use artificial sweeteners, even better, do use raw sugar.(Heather has been using organic raw sugar and likes it better than the processed.)
Cut back dramatically on caffeine.
No Corn products. That means no whole kernel corn, no corn meal, no corn syrup.

Heather has been making many huge changes to her diet recently, due to a major flare period. She is allergic to steroids, so there isn't anything her Dr can do for her. He did suggest some serious adjustments to her lifestyle though, in hopes that her flare period can be shortened and future flares can be minimized. We will keep you updated on progress.

  2. I've known for a long time, with my fibro, that diet does have a lot to do with the 'control' you have over your pain & fatigue! I think the two of you, like me & many others, can continue to walk the road to help all of us try to cope with our illnesses.
Good for you, trying new things! Good luck in the endeavor! Thank you for making this page for the rest of us with this horrible illness!

  3. Any idea why no corn products? *sniff* I love corn, but if giving it up will help with the fibro, I'll at least cut back on it

  4. I am very new at the fibro journey and just wondered.....why no corn?

I already don't do the artificial sweeteners because they trigger my migraines (horrible ones) and I have cut back the caffiene significantly.

Why the organic raw sugar? Is it better for weight loss or am I just stuck being this horrendous weight!

    Thanks for any insight
